Lumberyard 101 – Navigating the Lumberyard with Confidence
New to woodworking and feeling overwhelmed by lumberyards and slabs? Lumberyard 101 is designed to take the intimidation out of the experience. Bring a notebook and learn directly from a seasoned woodworker who will break down the terminology, materials, and essentials you need to know before starting your next project.
In this class, you will learn:
Lumberyard lingo – Understanding board dimensions such as 4/4, 6/4, and other common sizing terms
Types of wood cuts – The differences between quarter-sawn, flat-sawn, and other milling methods
Wood moisture & movement – How moisture content affects wood and why expansion and contraction matter
Project preparation – How to arrive with the right measurements so you purchase exactly what you need
By the end of this course, you’ll feel confident walking into a lumberyard, selecting materials wisely, and preparing properly for your woodworking projects.
